This looks awesome! Will it work with Silverlight 4?

New Post: grab image from xaml control link

I'd like a feature to add images from xaml controls or external silverlight applications,

then update that images in a daily basis...

this way Slide show could be a very useful dashboard representing historical data from wecharts...

also if the slideshow instead of using a path to an img file, take the url for the silverlight application (or path to xaml) and show it in the slideshow that would be awesome..

to generate a image from xaml control I found this example..

http://joel.neubeck.net/wp-content/uploads/2009/08/NavigationTransition/#/p1

regards!

Enhancements that I would find useful are:

1) Have an option to set resolution and size as suggested above in 6).
2) Option to specify a different folder for output of thumbnails.
3) Option to rename files on output, eg. user specified prefix plus sequence number. This would enable simple unique names to be used.

I like most of these suggestions as well. I hope I can offer some suggestions and solutions of my own.

Thanks for the project...it beats copy-n-paste in notepad or VS.

JRCSystems, as far as I know it is due to the project using .NET 3.5 and SilverLight and these are not suppored with VS2005. Looking forward to making changes my self once I get VS2008 and install it. You have some great ideas I did not think of.
WOW... what can I say, what a sweet tool for the Slide.Show project. It works clean and fast (for me on XP).

A feature request or two:
1) A Check All and Uncheck All button to include or exclude all pictures from a specific album.
2) Configuration option to set the size of thumbnail images and size of full size image.
3) Option or button to set the all titles and/or descriptions equal to first slide title and/or description. Why? As a photographer or a site hosting other photographers work, it would be nice to easily set say all the titles to "Photographed by John Smith", so I would not have to enter it in 50 times.

I have downloaded the source, but do not yet have VS2008 installed, so not sure when I can get to adding these changes my self. Thanks again so much for sharing this.
I've got a few requests that will make this program a lot easier to use.

1. Have little check-marks next to each button appear AFTER you've completed that step.
why? when you've got huge albums, you kind of lose track of what step you're at.
2. Have a default "author/photographer" name, so it can fill in the name for all photos.
3. Have an option to set date taken to date of file.
why not? it seems some files have date/taken from the camera? (not sure). if that doesn't exist, use file date/time.
4. Have an option to set description to name of file.
why? when making a slideshow for someone else (consulting/etc), and they give you 1000s of pics,
if it filled in the picture filename, its a lot easier for them to say keep hp20202.jpg, get rid of hp30303.jpg.
with no names filled in by default, its impossible.
5. When you click an Album, auto-click all photos inside the album... saves a LOT of time.
6. Give an option for what resolution to scale pictures to.
It does seem to do a good job making the _s and _t pictures. Many of the pictures seem grainy.
Maybe have different options High/Med/Low res, based on intended audience, CABLE/DSL/Dial-up.

7. I believe someone else already mentioned this, but I think this would make the program so much more powerful...
The ability to read in the settings from a previously made slideshow, and edit it.
If a person does an "Oops" and has to start over, that it kind of lame.

I think this program is off to a great start !!

Oh... I did have 1 question: What feature(s) did you make use of in vs2008 that aren't in vs2005??
I'd love to play with the source, and make some of those above requests myself, but I can't load it in vs2005.

Keep up the good work !!

billyzkid wrote:
How about PNG support? I noticed that it ignored a PNG file that I had in my images folder.

It ignores TIFF images, too. It'd be nice if it could take any image and convert it to a .jpg for the slideshow; but that may be asking too much.
Still; a very nice little program, and it saves a lot of time typing code.

billyzkid wrote:
No need for any UI!

I like th UI; it gives me a chance to see the files that it doesn't add because of missing meta tag info. I've noticed that already; if there's no meta tag information, this program wants to skip adding it to the slideshow.
Another thing, too; if there's sub folders within the gallery folders being initiated, it won't search those sub folders - it only goes one level deep. I have a few thousand pictures to generate, and there's some that are missing the meta tag info; this gives me a chance to add the missing info, even though it's just for the slideshow.

Ed.
I absolutely love this thing; it definitely saves alot of time typing in all the code for a slideshow. Better yet; if there's an image that's corrupt, this program won't generate it through like other programs will. There's nothing worse than having an image that looks like half an image, or two in one, etc... A slide show with bad images, makes a bad slideshow.
I have well over 15.000 images that i'm producing through this generator; i'm half-way through, and it came up with 10-15 corrupt images. This gives me a chance to replace these images with the originals; plus when I restart the generator, it quickly runs through what's already been generated, and starts where it left off afterwards.
Took a bit to get used to, but works absolutely great. I only needed to know that the images needed to be all seperated in seperate categorized sub folders, then the generator does the rest.

Thanks a million for this one; finally!!!! something that works with ease, and gets rid of the head-ache of typing thousands of lines of code.

Thanks again,
Ed

Thanks for the response. It was my fault. I was testing with a single album and was selecting one directory too deep. Does this work with Windows XP? I do have .NET 3.5 installed. The UI does not show anything when you select an Album Directory.
How about for the people who just want a quick n' dirty data file... Ideally, someone drops the target folder on the .exe icon and it just generates the default data file, images, and thumbnails for them. That would be my own use case 90% of the time, actually. No need for any UI!
This isn't exactly a feature request... I was initially confused by the 4 buttons at the top. I wasn't sure when to push each one and what each one was doing exactly (even with the help of the log at the bottom). Eventually, I just clicked all 4 and it just worked, but definitely wasn't that confident that it would work right. Still a cool tool though! :)
The data file it generated for me was technically invalid in that it included a dateTaken attribute. Was this a feature you added yourself? Slide.Show probably allows this for now, but shouldn't...
Obviously, images and thumbnails need to be sized differently depending on the intended slideshow. It would be cool to provide a way for the user to suggest the dimensions and/or image quality for the set main images and the set of thumbnails (not to each image individually, but one setting shared across each set).
